For many of us students, September exams are over. Congratulations you got through it! So in the time after exams I know that there are so many things to do. So here is a list of things that anyone can do after exams or after a busy time to just relax and make discoveries.
For me drawing is extremely thereputic. It lets out different feeling and reduces stress. It also gets you to be creative and being creative is just theraputic in itself. Plus anyone can do it. When people say that they ‘can’t draw’ it means that they can’t recreate something perfectly. When you draw it lets out steam and you can just do whatever you want because it’s your own. So get a notebook or drawing pad and get your pencil moving.
2. Read a book
I know that a lot of people don’t enjoy reading books as such. I’m not an avid reader myself, but when I find a good novel and get stuck in, I can’t put it down. So go to your local book store or library and browse around and see what you find. And I know that sometimes it can be hard to find a ‘good’ book, but trust me once you find the right one, you will be attached to it. However there are others who just hate books in general. So instead of reading a novel or a massive chapter book, read a magazine or newspaper. It is so interesting to know what’s going on in our world and what it has to offer.
3. Reduce time spent on electronics
Sounds crazy right. But reducing the amount of time you have in front of a screen is actually better for your health. For example, before you go to bed, instead of going on instagram or Facebook, read a book. One of the reasons why so many people today are sleep deprived or have issues with sleep is because they spend their time before bed in front of a screen. So at least for a week or just a few a days, take a holiday away from your devices and see if it makes a difference.
4. Have a bath
This is the highest point of relaxation that there is. The thought of sitting in a tub full of warm water with loads of bubbles just makes me so happy. Taking a bath, for me personally helps reduce a lot of stress, and because I don’t have the time to do it that often, it’s like a treat to sit in the tub and relax. However, bath bombs can be really expensive, but it’s super easy to make your own. Grab some baking soda, a type of scenter, some citric acid, and some salt. Then mix them and then pick up the mixture to create the shape you want.
5. Go for a walk or just go out somewhere
Staying inside all day just makes me fidgety and I can get bored really easily if I’m not doing something. So if you don’t have anything to do in a day and you’re just at home, go out somewhere, it doesn’t even need to be far. Going for a walk is so nice and it allows you to look at things with a different perspective. If you walk around your local area or even just to the end of your street (depending on it’s length lol) it’ll allow you to look at things differently and give you different insights on how everything looks and acts around you.
Baking is so much fun, I just love baking. Baking is another way to be creative and learn new techniques about how to make something great. Sometimes the process can be a little stressful, and if you feel like baking or cooking something is too stressful, this may not be for you, but the feeling afterwards is just awesome. Being able to present your masterpeice to someone else and see the smile on their face and tell you that it’s good just gives you the warm fuzzies. So get yourself into the kitchen and get your hands dirty with flour and sugar, and bring out the inner baker in you.
7. Tye dye something
Tye dying is also a lot of fun and is really easy to do. Find anything white that you would like to dye, like a sheet of t-shirt. Then buy some dye or make your own with different vegies. Here is a link on how to make your own natural dye: http://playfullearning.net/2013/06/all-natural-tie-dye-diy/ Then find a bunch of rubber bands and start making your own pattern. Once you’ve added your dye and left it for a few hours, the result of all the different colours together is just awesome to look at.
8. Go to a farmers market or a local market place
I love markets, there are so many things there and so many things to discover. I recently went to the Onehunga night market, and the atmosphere is just amazing. There are so many different stalls and places to try different food. Just being able to try different foods is an expereience in itself. So go online and find out if you have a local market or just look for a market and go because it is just a great experience with the wide ranges of food, and even the little nicknacks that can found are pretty cool.
I hope that this list has given a different insight on the different things to do to relieve stress and the range of things that you can spend your time doing.
Stay Gracious xx
